“My blood is reclusive,” she replied, eyes hooded partially by pale lids. “And I do believe I’m flattered that you find my scent appealing. I’ve been told it’s offending once before.”

   “Good thing you already do.” Eyebrows raising in amusement to her insult, he only grins more and says back. “Oh, c’mon. That can’t be the only thing you think of us males. Wait—did you say human males?”

She peered at him guardedly, answering in a levelheaded voice. “I suppose males in the animal kingdom can be lewd as well. That is, lion males are willing to reproduce with any female in the pack.” Then of course there could be demons who were dangerously lusty, but that little detail was omitted.
